Hear from the Volunteer: Susan Conway

My name is Susan, and I just completed my first year volunteering for Cancer Support Community North Texas. When the Jr. League of Dallas placed me as a special event volunteer, I had no idea the amazing and memorable journey I was about to embark on with CSCNT and am glad I’m able to share my experiences over the past year.

My placement was truly a match made in heaven right off the bat as the flexible schedule allowed me to participate in many different activities and worked extremely well with my schedule. My role had me doing everything from serving food the buffet line at the Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, to greeting members at the welcome desk and answering phones to working the check in table for Cancer Support’s annual 5K fundraiser just to name a few. No day working with CSCNT was the same and I feel my experience was that much more rewarding because of the diverse work I was able to do. My favorite memory from the past year was assisting with the ‘science experiment’ activity at the clubhouse. The experiment allowed participants to learn about and create multiple types of slime! Everyone had a blast that afternoon laughing as we played and learned with the gew each person had created! That day will surely not be forgotten!

The staff at Cancer Support Community North Texas was nothing short of first class and definitely contributed to my overall positive experience with the organization. Everyone has been such a joy to work with and see first hand the impact each makes in the lives of the members and their families through various forms of emotional and social support programs.

All in all, I’ve had a wonderful first year volunteering at Cancer Support Community North Texas and look forward to continuing my work with them for years to come. If you are seeking a fun and rewarding experience combined with the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer, I highly recommend joining CSCNT!
